San Francisco cafes serving tasting flights, with a 2026 US finalist barista.

Meg Skop placed fifth in the finals of the 2026 US Barista Championship. The San Francisco Chronicle reported in December 2025 that the cafes use mostly Onyx beans, roast some lots themselves, and pour a tasting flight of three coffees or one coffee prepared three ways.

Co-founders Reef Bessette and Bryan Overstreet run cafes in Chinatown and the Inner Richmond, plus a counter inside Side A on 19th Street. The Standard reported in June 2026 that a Mason Street cafe with a four-seat slow bar was due to open this fall.

At this shop

The shop is at 1737 Balboa Street in the Inner Richmond, behind a white-painted brick front with street windows and a black hanging COFFEE sign. Inside, one open room is built around a curved stone-topped counter that sweeps through the middle, with the brew stations set back in a framed bay behind it. A bench and low stools stand on the sidewalk out front.

Beans

The Coffee Movement roasts its own beans. These are from its wider range, so not all may be served at this shop.
